Short answer: put WIP by client and age next to debtors by age on one page, every Monday, and bill anything over 30 days that week. Most small firms find one to two months of revenue sitting in WIP the first time they look.
Why it sits
Jobs are finished but not marked complete. Time is captured late or not at all. The engagement letter wasn't signed so nobody wants to invoice. Quarter-end billing means the January work is invoiced in April.
The view
WIP by client, by age, by staff member. Jobs marked complete but not invoiced. Time captured this week against expected. Engagement letters outstanding. Debtors by age with reminders drafted.
What it reads
Xero Practice Manager, Karbon, Harvest or your timesheet tool, and the ledger, read-only.
